Nostalgic Beast (Life warp)

Warp: Unbleached, black and handdyed cotton.
Weft: The weft is a mix of bourette silk, medium thick and thick, cotton and cottolinen. Some inlayse are tencel. I addition, the piece has extra fringes and colorfull floss to enhance the playfullness and fluffyness of the 80s.
he inspiration for this piece is the 80s. I asked in our Vidvandrer group on Facebook what people associated with the 80s, and got valuable, fun and insightful input that I would not otherwise have thought of. It was a great process, thank you!
Using older weaving techniques, I have woven inn four motifs; headphones with a cord, My Little Pony, Princess Diana’s tiara and a disco ball. The middle marker is a collection of sporadic geometric shapes.
The colors in on half of the piece is pastel colors, transitioning over into more powerful colors and a neon colored tails. Between the two more powerful sections are a muted area with monochrome colors, an acknowledgement of how the 80s was not just fun and games, but had serious happenings like The Cold War, Chernobyl and The Berlin Wall, and this affected many childhoods, and also our parents at that time, making a family and hoping for a better future. And let it remind us, we create the future, and we all need to feel happiness, safety and love to create a good one.
